STEM Outreach
Known as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, STEM is a term commonly used to address an educational initiative to improve the accessibility for these specific fields of education and the diversity of students studying in these fields. In conjunction with 21st-Century Learning trends of building student skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, STEM education emphasizes student cognitive enhancements in applications of science, technology, engineering and math. With a strong emphasis on applying knowledge learned in problem-based exercises, students “apply” their knowledge and solve problems in lieu of memorization. In an education climate that is evolving and preparing students for the real world, professional partnerships with employers are crucial in strengthening the STEM learning experience.
STEM outreach, in the form of professional partnerships, is a curriculum-bridging measure that school districts and schools are more and more frequently folding into their classroom curriculum.
