Two Inspiring Events, One Great Night

On Thursday, October 12, Hainline team members had the opportunity to attend two exciting events: Skanska’s Bricks & Books auction, and Washington STEM’s “Thank You” dinner.

Yong Lee Dunbar, Director of K-12 Construction Services, was on hand at Skanska’s Bricks & Books auction, an annual Skanska event in partnership with Rainier Scholars. The auction raises money for Rainier Scholars, an organization that helps hard-working, low-income students of color get the support they need over the course of their 12-year education, to graduate from a four-year college. Skanska solicits items from its partners in the AEC industry to put up for auction, and proceeds go to benefit Rainier Scholars. This year, Hainline donated a pair of tickets to a 2018-2019 season Mariner’s game.

Jim Stoner, President, had the opportunity to attend the Washington STEM “Thank You” dinner, held this year at the McKinstry Innovation Center. Hainline is proud to support STEM outreach initiatives, because we understand how critical professional partnerships are as curriculum-bridging measures that school districts and schools are folding into their classroom curriculum. Hainline is pleased to have made a donation to support Washington STEM, and though we attended the “Thank You” dinner, it was not for the accolades, but rather so we could say “Thank You” to Washington STEM for the role it is playing in STEM education.

STEM Outreach at Hainline

Five years ago, our Director of K-12 Construction Services, Yong Lee-Dunbar, founded the “Built Environment Series” for Tesla STEM High School at a prior firm. Her Series has continued and grown to include Hainline, DLR Group, and Skanska USA, teaming to teach students about the professions in the Built Environment: Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Sustainability. In addition, Yong is an active participant with Washington STEM’s various outreach programs.

A new Hainline website is coming soon: watch for updates on Hainline Happenings, as well as a feature page highlighting our STEM Outreach.
